Year 7 Mind Blank’s ‘Forum Theatre’ style performance on ‘’Cyberbullying’’

The Mind Blank cast played out a scenario of bullying via texting and anti-social behaviour.

Year 7 students experienced Mind Blank’s ‘Forum Theatre’ style performance on ‘’Cyberbullying’’ today.

The Mind Blank cast played out a scenario of bullying via texting and anti-social behaviour, where the result was quite damaging to the characters involved.  The storyline was then replayed and this time our Year 7 students had to call out ‘’Freeze’’ when they wanted the action to stop and suggest a ‘’better’’ way the situation could have been handled.  Students were given the opportunity to put forward a variety of ideas that were played out and further discussed by the audience for the success or not of the strategy. Many of the students went on stage and performed a role as part of the learning experience. In the end a very happy real life ending (even though ‘unicorns’ were involved!!) was acted out.

Please ask your daughter what she learnt from the performance.

The most significant message that emerged was that the individual must speak up when they have a problem or are feeling down or anxious.

As soon as the conversation becomes ‘two-way’ between student and a responsible adult, solutions to the problem or issue emerge.

Cyberbullying is a reality for our students and they need to feel empowered with strategies to reject its influence.
