Congratulations Professor Rose McGready who has been awarded 2026 Australian of the Year for ACT.

A dedicated and high‑achieving student, Lucy is recognised as the Runner‑Up Dux of the College, reflecting her strong academic performance across her BSSS tertiary package, with a particular focus on English and the Humanities.

Ishita is a student of exceptional talent and commitment, reflecting her outstanding academic achievement across all subjects.

Our chosen symbol for 2026 is the Butterfly. Pia Lawrence, one of our students and designer of the symbol, writes that the butterfly reminds us of new life and how God helps us to grow and change.  The red circle shows God’s love that surrounds and protects us. Together, they teach us that faith means trusting God, staying close to him and believing he will guide us.

We are extremely excited to welcome the new staff, students and families who are joining our Merici community. You are now part of an incredibly caring and nurturing family where we strive to allow every individual to reach their full potential.

Term 1 2026 commences Monday 2 February for Year 7, 11, 12 and new students. Tuesday 3 February is the start date for Years 8, 9 and 10.

We continue to offer opportunities for students to be involved in reading and literature. This year we again participated in the Year 7 & 8 Readers Cup competition and we entered 4 teams to compete at Canberra Grammar School in late October. We were also involved in the CBCA Shadow Judging. In the lead up to Term 3, we transformed our reading club into the Book Week Committee.

2025 has been a year of wonderful and expansive endeavours for Inclusive Education at Merici College. With our ever-growing team of professionals, The Hub, our central support location, has become a constant hive of activity for students across all year levels who need support.

Our students have continued to show their curiosity and creativity. Senior Chemistry students put their forensic hats on, applying their knowledge to analyse a hypothetical crime scene in a unique and engaging assessment task. Across the junior years, Science was full of hands-on experiences.
