Year 7 Marist/Merici College Days ‘Respectful Relationships'

Year 7 students participated in the inaugural combined Marist-Merici College Days earlier this week. Entitled ‘Respectful Relationships’, this new initiative was designed by Marist College and Merici College to bring the brother-sister schools together for ice breaker games, Youth Ministry activities and a ‘Choices, Decisions, Outcomes (CDO)’ relationship building session. Youth Ministers Neve Tually and Michael Seselja, youth ministry students, staff of both Colleges and a team from the ‘Marriage, Family and Relationships, Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn’ facilitated the sessions which focused on respectful and healthy relationships, values, qualities and friendships.

The Marist-Merici day was a great experience to learn and integrate with one another. To start the day we went straight into ice breakers learning fun facts and names.  We learnt about different kinds of relationships and what roles they play throughout our lives. As well as this, we were given examples of healthy and non-healthy relationships and taught how to recognise those detrimental to us. During the day we learnt about who we have relationships and why we value them. We also talked about our relationship with god and how we can strengthen it through prayer. Combined with activities that were relevant to the topics conveyed. It was a excellent day to meet others from primary school or just greet to some new people. Emily Bauer, Year 7
