STUDENT REFLECTION - WAATI SCHOLARSHIP TO ITALY

Gabby Gregoire, Class of 2018, shares her experiences on her recent trip to Italy as part of the WAATI Scholarship program.

It has now been 3 weeks since arriving back from Italy, and there hasn't been a day that has gone past where I have not mentioned aspects of my incredible experience.
I had just completed my year 12 exams, and the next thing I knew, I was on a plane to Perth, not knowing what the future had installed for me, but I was simply excited by the idea of immersing myself in a culture which I love so deeply.

Travel
The travel experience was different for myself and my classmate, as we were from Canberra whereas the other 40 or so students were from Western Australia. So, this meant we had to catch an extra flight over to Perth. When we arrived in Perth, we were greeted by a member of WAATI who enthusiastically took us to the international terminal where we would meet Fulvia and the other students. We were grateful because this took the stress off our shoulders.  When we arrived at the international airport, this is when the fun started. We had the opportunity to get familiar with the other students that were assigned in our groups.  My group was number one and were the coolest group if I do say so myself. We all looked out for each other, helped one another when we had problems at the airport or were feeling anxious about the flight. By the end of the experience, we all felt like family, and still do. On the journey back home from Rome, two of my friends in the group had a fun idea and bought us all tartan pyjama pants for us to wear at dinner and on the flights back home!
