Merici College Showcase 2017

Dance, Photography, Visual Arts, Music, Fashion and Media Exhibition 2017

Creativity is about human expression and communicating deeply. It is a gift where every artist desires to share a glimpse into part of themselves. Merici College celebrates the artistic gifts and talents of our students throughout the year but especially at our annual Showcase Exhibition.

Our students are creative risk takers, they day-dream and work hard to craft the product that tells the story they want to be told in the medium they choose to explain the mystery of life, and the adventure we are all on.

The subjects highlighted at our exhibition this year are Dance, Photography, Visual Arts, Music, Fashion and Media. At our official opening, our students from Year 7 to 12 modeled their designs in fashions and textiles, our co-curricular Dance Troupe performed routines that demonstrated their diversity, and our Senior Band and Advanced Strings performed a selection of ensembles and solo arrangements.

The exhibition continues throughout the week and displays many beautiful art and photographic creations, as well as examples of films on our computers and large screens that senior students have produced in their Media classes.

The Showcase would not happen without the expertise and advice of our passionate and creative teachers and the encouragement of students' parents to complete their work. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff involved in making this exhibition a success. To the Coordinator of the Expressive Arts, Laura Pearce, and her team of teachers, Liz Igoe-Taylor, Sue Birch-Marston, Matt Reynolds and Beth Way, and the Coordinator of Global Studies, Corinne Preston and her team of Sue Paton and Diana Davis. I would like to extend a special thank you to Sue Birch-Marston who will retire at the end of this year. We thank you Sue for your 23 years of service and dedication to the Expressive Arts Department and the life of Merici College.  Appreciation and thanks are also extended to Trent Cannell and his maintenance team, Tookie Capezio and the catering team for the refreshments and Ros Parisi for marketing. A special thank you to Susan Anderson as she has been instrumental in setting the displays, as well as working behind the scenes of the fashion parade.

My heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all our students for their wonderful achievements throughout the year, an amazing effort!
