Introducing our 2023 School Captains … Raechel McKinnon, 2023 College Captain

Leader name: Raechel McKinnon

Dream job: Paramedic

One place you want to travel to: Italy

Hobbies: Softball, stalking celebrities, learning languages (currently learning wookie)

Favourite food: Quinoa burgers, specifically the ones made by Bella Loxley’s mum

Favourite movie: Tick, Tick… BOOM! (I’ve seen it 32 times!) and Little Women

Favourite book: Those Faraday Girls by Monica McInerney/ The Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir (highly highly highly recommend)

Favourite singer: I refuse to choose between Louis Tomlinson and Taylor Swift

Favourite song: 30/90 from Tick Tick Boom or Vienna by Billy Joel but Fergalicious is shaping up to be my most listened to song of 2022… I truly don’t know how…

Favourite song lyric: “Poopy-di scoop, scoop-diddy-whoop, whoop-di-scoop-di-poop, poop-di-scoopty, scoopty-whoop” - Kanye West, Lift Yourself

Favourite subject: Modern History and Human Biology!

Go-to joke: “Why do seagulls fly over the sea?” “Because if they flew over the bay, they’d be bagels”

Party trick: I can recite every word of Julia Gillard’s ‘Misogyny Speech’ / can chug an entire canteen milkshake in 21 seconds (dm for video evidence)

Most embarrassing moment: Introducing Mrs Masters as “our… school… teacher" at the Year 7 Open Day in front of all the new Year 7s and their parents because I forgot the word 'principal'. Mrs Masters, if you're reading this, I am sorry that I butchered your introduction!

Thank you so much for choosing me as your 2023 College Captain! I can’t wait for next year! As College Captain, I’m hoping to create more inter-school and inter-house activities for everybody to engage in, with the help of the rest of the awesome leader team! I also want to focus on building areas such as the arts, sports, and social justice at Merici, because being in high school is about SO much more than academics! Come talk to me in person any time, I’d love to get to know you! Otherwise, if you have any ideas, questions, suggestions, or even if you just want a friend to chat with, you can always email me ([email protected]) or message me via social media.
