Thank you to all our grandparents and special loved ones for attending Grandparent’s Day 2021 at Merici College! Our students and staff were very excited to have you here sharing this very special occasion with your grandchild.
We welcome the grandparents who have travelled a great distance to be here and wish you a safe journey back home. We keep in our thoughts and prayers those who would love to be a part of today but cannot due to COVID-19 restrictions.
2021 is a very special year for our College, as it marks our year of Dare To Dream. Throughout the year we have been reflecting on what it means to “Dare to Dream” through the Gospel Beatitudes with its overarching symbol of the STAR. Fidelitas, our College motto, directly translates to ‘faithfulness’. Fidelitas also means ‘loyalty’, and in our context, to our personal values and to each other. Family is the prime example of fidelitas. Family plays a critical role in the development of a young person, including their faith. Today we honour and value the role of extended families; our grandparents. Grandparents are to be treasured. They give us the gift of their time, their love and their lessons learnt. We are committed to strengthening the bonds that already exist between our students and their grandparents. In doing so, our students will be well on their way to becoming successful women who love God as they journey through life. To our grandparents present today, we would like to honour you and to thank you for the immensely important role that you play.
