ACT Volleyball Champions

Merici’s Year 9 and 10 team has finished as the ACT Volleyball Champions after competing in the recently held regional competition and then the finals’ competition.

In the finals competition day held on June 6 at Lyneham Volleyball Centre, the team had to play a round robin format against four other schools who had also qualified through their regional competitions. After a great start to the day, the team lost their final two matches to end up in 3rd place going into the semi finals. Playing against St Clare’s College in the semi, the girls won 3 sets to nil to set up a grand final against Alfred Deakin High, who had earlier beaten us in the round robin. In this last match, the Merici team dominated, winning 3 sets to nil (15-4, 15-4, 15-6). The successful players were: Caitlin Treble, Jessica Kalthofen, Grace Aboud, Lauren Kemp, Jessica Brewer, Olivia Horvat, Finlay McClelland and Casey Pratt.

“It was such a great experience coming together as a team, achieving such a fantastic result. We have worked really hard to achieve our best as a team, as well as our individual skills.” Caitlin Treble, Year 10

As a team we were able to re-strategize our game play so that we could win the next game. I really enjoyed meeting all the other teams and sharing our passion for volleyball”. Jessica Kalthofen, Year 9
