2022 International Junior Science Olympiad Training at Merici

This is the first year that Australia will officially compete in the IJSO and we wish them well!

This weekend Merici will host the Australian national team for the 2022 International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) as they complete final training.

The IJSO is an international competition now in its eighteenth year. Countries enter teams of six students under 16 years of age, and the competition challenges the teams across all areas of science.  This year sixty-five countries will be participating, and the host is the United Arab Emirates.

The six Year 9 and 10 students from around Australia will be undertaking final experimental and theoretical training this weekend with Dr Kathryn White before the commencement of the IJSO next week. The team will be supported by local staff from Australian Science Innovations and will be invigilated remotely as they take part in two individual theoretical exams and one collaborative experimental challenge.

Along with her work at Merici, Dr White is the program director of the Australian Junior Science Olympiad. Along with specialist physics and biology teachers Dr Tammy Humphrey (James Ruse Agricultural High School, Sydney) and Dr Sam Moyle (Brighton Secondary School, Adelaide), she has been selecting and training the team remotely since August.

This is the first year that Australia will officially compete in the IJSO and we wish them well!
