Merici College’s 2019 Swimming Carnival saw students compete in traditional stroke and novelty events. The carnival allowed many students who have spent very early mornings involved in local swim squads to showcase their talents and also provided an avenue for all the girls to take part in a challenging activity.
Student attendance and participation is always high, with over 600 girls attending the day and getting into the festivities. The House spirit is amazing, which adds to the atmosphere at the pool. The display of technical skill, fitness, self-discipline, team spirit and resilience was enjoyable to be a part of.
Some of the highlights of the day included the lap swim, the novelty events, the Merici Marlin and the sheer number of students getting in the pool and earning points for their House. Congratulations to Helen Read for winning the Merici Marlin event.
A special mention needs to be made about the exemplary way the students conducted themselves throughout the day, especially considering the hot and windy conditions. I would also like to thank the staff for their efforts on the day, particularly the staff members that were responsible for the set-up and pack-up of the venue. Thank-you also to the parents who stepped into help with official duties.
