2017 International Women's Day Dinner

Loretta Wholley, Principal with school leaders Roisin Moore and Dana Ryan express thanks and appreciation to Emma O'Sullivan, our guest speaker

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Celebrated on March 8, the day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for this year was #BeBoldForChange and to support this special occasion, Merici College held a dinner on Thursday 9 March in the restaurant.

The evening was a huge success with over 100 people attending. Year 11 and 12 Hospitality students prepared a wonderful three-course meal and parents, students, staff and community members welcomed Emma O’Sullivan as the guest speaker. Emma spoke about ”What makes a life engaging, enriching and truly worth living?” After working as a journalist and public servant Emma began a quest to find the answer as she faced with the question, "Is this it?" Her search caused her to revolutionize herself and her work in the pursuit of more meaning, vitality and simplicity in an increasingly distracted and over-stimulated world. Her presentation inspired and motivated the audience, providing strategies to motivate women in their pursuit of success.

We would like to thank our parents, students, staff and community members for supporting our dinner. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation is extended to our Hospitality staff and students and Emma for her inspiring presentation.

Let us pray for all women around the world so that they may be blessed with:

The strength to persevere, the courage to speak out,

the vision to seek a renewed ministry,

the faith to believe in you beyond all systems and institutions, so that your face on earth may be seen in all its beauty.

We call on the holy and courageous women who went before us. We ask them to intercede for us so we might be given the grace and vision to follow in their footsteps, as we work together for the recognition and encouragement of women as witnesses to the joy of the gospel.

We ask these prayers and all the prayers in our hearts through Christ our Lord. Amen.
