Year 8 "Shark Tank"

Year 8 Business and Economics classes had a fantastic day yesterday at our very own Merici College “Shark Tank”. They worked in groups to come up with unique business ideas, wrote business plans and pitched them to a panel of “sharks”. Many thanks to our visitor Manual Xyrakis (Ainslie IGA) and staff members Kerry McDonnell and Adrian Heim with their help on the day as business “sharks”. There were some ingenious ideas and some very persuasive presentations from the girls.

The winning business pitches were:

CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKSHOP

On Tuesday 6 June, the Year 9 and 10 Dance students were privileged to participate in a contemporary dance workshop, led by two independent dance artists and recent graduates of the Victorian College of the Arts, Jack Riley and Olivia McPherson.

Jack and Olivia began the workshop by leading students through a warmup and a series of travelling and floor exercises. Emphasis was on activating one’s core and softening the legs to get close to the floor. The class progressed to movement phrases which were fast, fluid and connected. The students’ confidence grew as the class went on.

Merici's Year 10 Engineering Team wins Da Vinci Decathlon!

We congratulate the Da Vinci Competition team members who competed yesterday in the Elite Da Vinci competition at Knox Grammar School in Sydney. The competition was incredibly competitive, there were 1300 students from the best schools in Sydney and the surrounding area! Both the Year 9 and Year 10 teams worked incredibly hard and achieved good results, however as you can imagine with so many top grammar and selective schools it’s very difficult to even reach the top 25%.

ACTSmart Earth Hour Awards 2017

Congratulations to all Merici College students and staff for participating in the 2017 Earth Hour. At the ACT Government’s Sustainable School Program Awards Ceremony on Thursday 18 May, Minister Shane Rattenbury MLA awarded our College 1st place for our participation in Earth Hour. In particular, Minister Rattenbury acknowledged our efforts in conserving energy and engaging the community through the various activities organised on the day. Specifically, our interactive art installation of a light globe, where students and staff alike pledged to reduce their ecological footprint.
