Year 8 "Shark Tank"

Manual Xyrakis from Ainslie IGA providing business advice to Year 8 students.

Year 8 Business and Economics classes had a fantastic day yesterday at our very own Merici College “Shark Tank”. They worked in groups to come up with unique business ideas, wrote business plans and pitched them to a panel of “sharks”. Many thanks to our visitor Manual Xyrakis (Ainslie IGA) and staff members Kerry McDonnell and Adrian Heim with their help on the day as business “sharks”. There were some ingenious ideas and some very persuasive presentations from the girls.

The winning business pitches were:

3rd place: Correctitup – smart pen that picks up grammar, spelling and punctuation errors and allows you to erase and correct them.

2nd place: Lockit – an app and hardware that alerts you when you leave something unlocked or switched on at home. At the press of a button, you can lock it or turn it off remotely.

1st place: Safe wear – wearable accessories with a build in GPS and discrete buttons to use when you feel unsafe. Press once to alert your top 5 contacts (through an app) and twice to alert the police of your location.

Some incredible entrepreneurial minds were on display – we can expect big things from these girls and can be sure the future is in very capable hands!
