Merici College Green Tip #9 - Zero Waste Revolution - Saturday 30 April

Any further delay in concerted global action will miss a brief and rapidly closing window to secure a "livable future" according to the Panel's co-chair.
In particular, Australia will suffer greater climate impacts than any other advanced economy.

So if you want to take action for your livable future:

The Festival will be held on Saturday 30 April 2022, in the Kambri Precinct of ANU.

The theme of this year's festival is:

One Person, a World of Difference

Harmony Day Picnic Lunch

Thanks everyone for celebrating Harmony Day at Merici College today. We thoroughly enjoyed our Picnic Lunch on the oval with each friendship group preparing food which is distinctive to their family heritage to share with the rest of their lunch group. A multicultural feast!! The picnic was a great way to give each other an insight into our family’s culture and beliefs. #harmonyday2022 #mericifamily #mericipride

Merici College Green Tip #8 - Earth Hour 2022

Earth Hour is this coming Saturday, March 26th.

This Earth Hour, Australians are being called upon everywhere to sign up, switch off and join a worldwide community of millions supporting stronger action on climate change.

It’s never been more critical to come together to protect our world than at this moment.

Climate change is impacting our precious environment right now, with the Great Barrier Reef experiencing its fourth significant bleaching event in just six years.

Meet our Studies Coordinators - Stephanie Spiller, Global Studies Coordinator

Stephanie returned to Merici College in 2022, stepping into the role of Global Studies Coordinator. She began her teaching career at Merici in 2004 and as part of a Defence family, she has enjoyed a variety of positions at schools in Townsville, Brisbane, and Canberra. Stephanie has also taken on the role of CAS facilitator, and is looking forward to supporting our IB Diploma students throughout their DP journey.

#MericiMoment Wall of Words - Caitlin Heigle, Class of 2020

The word I have chosen is SISTERHOOD.

The community at Merici is unlike anything that I have experienced at other schools. It ties together the students and creates a sisterhood that can surpass time and distance.

I am currently pursuing a Chemistry degree at the University of Massachusetts with a potential minor in English to go into Scientific Journalism.

Caitlin Heigle

We look forward to hearing more from Caitlin as her studies progress.

Merici College Green Tip #7 - World Wildlife Day

March 3 was World Wildlife Day. The theme for 2022 is  “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”.  Over a million species are threatened with extinction. Continued loss of species, habitats and ecosystems also threatens all life on Earth, including humans.

In Australia the threat to wildlife has been exacerbated by the flooding which has displaced animals, washed away their food sources and flooded their burrows.

National Close the Gap Day 2022

17 March is the “National Close the Gap Day” in Australia. For more than a decade now, Australians from every corner of the country, in schools, businesses and community groups, have shown their support for Close the Gap by marking National Close the Gap Day on the third Thursday of March each year. This National Close the Gap Day, we have an opportunity to send our governments a clear message that Australians value health equality as a fundamental right for all. Join us in demanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equality within a generation.
