Bridge Benefit Dinner 2017 - A Huge Success!

This event is in its third year running and was initiated two years ago by two staff members, Trish Young and Tookie Capezio, as a way of broadening the experiences of Senior Hospitality students. It also gives the students with the opportunity of providing a service to those members in our community who need our help most.  On behalf of all the Merici College community, we commend Trish, Tookie and the students on their wonderful endeavours, and congratulate them for the first-class, degustation menu that they prepared on Saturday night.

Merici College 2017 Innovative School Award Radio Interview

Merici College's Fiona Buining (Sustainability/Science Teacher), Bec DeCourcy (Sustainability Officer) and Caitlin Treble (Year 10 Sustainability student) spoke to Genevieve Jacobs, Journalist at ABC Radio, about Merici College being selected as one of Australia's top Innovative Schools for 2017 in 'The Educator' magazine. 'The Educator' received a record number of entries this year so being selected as one of the final 40 nationwide is a fantastic achievement.  Our submission provided details of our Sustainability/Healthy Canteen/Kitchen Garden Program.

Student Achievement - Young Women Speak Out (YWSO) Program

Congratulations to Kate Connolly (Year 11) who has been accepted into the Young Women Speak Out (YWSO) project. Young Women Speak Out (YWSO) is an advocacy and campaigning program for young women. The program consists of two practical workshops to assist a group of six young women to design a progressive advocacy project or campaign on an issue important to the group. The workshops are followed by resourcing, mentoring and support to drive a campaign for change!

Duke of Edinburgh Student Experiences and Reflections

The Bush Prac weekends are designed to extend the navigation and survival skills of the Duke of Edinburgh participants and act as the practice journey towards their Bronze Award. Two weekends were held this year out at Wee Jasper, NSW. A number of new Marist and Merici students participated in hiking, river crossings and survival scenarios. They were joined by a number of older students who helped to run the weekend. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who make these adventures possible!

ACT Netball Champions

Merici’s Year 9 and 10 Netball team has finished as the ACT Netball Champions after playing a double-extra-time scorcher against reigning champions St.Clare’s yesterday. We congratulate our students on their achievements and thank them for being exemplary representatives of the College.
