The semester has gotten off to a cracking start with over one hundred students from Years 7-12 participating in this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition. Held on the Thursday and Friday of Week 2, the competition challenged students with increasingly complex problems covering a broad range of mathematical disciplines. The girls came out of the competition buzzing about which questions were tricky, what they tried and what they would do differently in the future.

Here are the stats:
In 2014 we only recycled 24% of our waste. This number has increased every year and now we currently recycle over 50% of our waste!
2014 - 24%
2015 - 31%
2016 - 43%
2017 - 50%

The event included a line-up of some of Canberra’s best up-and-coming talent including:

On Thursday 27 July, Merici College hosted the 'Vinnies Night Out – Reduce, Reuse, Restyle' event which was a concert-style fundraising event for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. The event included a line-up of some of Canberra’s best up-and-coming talent including: DJs Toucan Music and Bangers and Mash; Bands Jacob Jones Keogh and Salad Buoys; and dancers from Bom Funk Dance Studio. A sausage sizzle, raffles and a dress-up competition were also part of the evening’s activities. Catholic schools with students from Years 10-12 came along and supported this event.

This presented us with the wonderful opportunity of interviewing ex-student Heather Phillips, aunty to current students Imogen and Niamh Blake. Heather graduated from Merici College in 1998 and shared the following reflection.
Merici student wins WAATI Flight Centre Scholarship
Submitted by mericiadmin on July 27, 2017 - 11:10amCongratulations to Gabrielle Gregoire, Year 11 student who has been awarded the Western Australian Association of Teachers of Italian (WAATI) - Flight Centre Scholarship to attend an eight-week student exchange in Italy. Gabby will be undertaking this scholarship at the end of November this year. We are very proud of Gabby’s efforts and wish her continued success in her study of language.
