On Thursday 27 July, Merici College hosted the 'Vinnies Night Out – Reduce, Reuse, Restyle' event which was a concert-style fundraising event for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. The event included a line-up of some of Canberra’s best up-and-coming talent including: DJs Toucan Music and Bangers and Mash; Bands Jacob Jones Keogh and Salad Buoys; and dancers from Bom Funk Dance Studio. A sausage sizzle, raffles and a dress-up competition were also part of the evening’s activities. Catholic schools with students from Years 10-12 came along and supported this event.
At our recent Grandparents Day, our community welcomed grandmothers, mothers and aunties who are ex-students of Merici College. This presented us with the wonderful opportunity of interviewing ex-student Heather Phillips, aunty to current students Imogen and Niamh Blake. Heather graduated from Merici College in 1998 and shared the following reflection.
Congratulations to Gabrielle Gregoire, Year 11 student who has been awarded the Western Australian Association of Teachers of Italian (WAATI) - Flight Centre Scholarship to attend an eight-week student exchange in Italy. Gabby will be undertaking this scholarship at the end of November this year. We are very proud of Gabby’s efforts and wish her continued success in her study of language.
Here is our green tip for the week:
Even if you’re not using plastic bags, remember to re-use your bags to actually reduce your environmental footprint.
Business owner, university graduate and former Merici student, Tracy Keeley, has penned a letter to current Merici students, providing an insight into the journey of a successful business woman.
Join the Class of 2007 from Merici College for an evening of memory sharing, old faces and new opportunities to connect! This event is open to all women who attended Merici College who would have graduated from Year 12 in 2007 - it would be great to see all the faces the students grew with and learnt from.
Here is our green tip for the week:
Is your phone running low?
Charge it sustainably with our electricity-generating bikes!!
The bikes have been set-up in the main foyer for everyone to use.
