Merici College Green Tip #43 - Merici and the ACT Government's Sustainable Schools Program

Sustainability at Merici

Last term, Merici signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ACT government's Sustainable Schools Program.

It’s a free program for all ACT schools which supports actions through taking a whole school approach to:

  • Improve sustainability;
  • Take climate action; and
  • Reduce emissions.

By applying the framework across the school’s operations, curriculum, and community, the program can help the school:

  • Manage energy, water and waste;
  • Increase and protect biodiversity; and
  • Attain sustainability star certification.

Merici is already well advanced in many of these areas and looking forward to further improving our environmental, social, economic and cultural outcomes where possible in partnership with the Sustainable Schools Program.

All images are from sustainability promoting actions at Merici - a no waste lunch from canteen, lettuce seedlings, battery recycling, the SAM board at the Activities Expo, working on the Biodiversity Restoration Project, and lunchtime scraps for the chickens in the school market garden.
