Mother’s Day Liturgy and Lunch

On Monday 11 May, our College was honoured by the presence of more than 100 mothers and significant others from our Merici family. The focus of the Liturgy was centred around the love of a mother and ongoing nurturing that mothers provide to their children every day. After the liturgy, guests and students enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared and served by the Hospitality students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate Mothers’ Day, share stories, laugh together and make more connections while sharing a meal together.

We gather today in our 2026 year of Fidelitas, to honour and celebrate the gift of mothers and all those women who nurture and guide our lives. We give thanks that you chose to give us life through them, and that through their faithful love we come to know something of your own love for us.

We thank you for the women who have raised us and encouraged us to grow; whether birth mother, adopted mother, older sister, aunt, grandmother, stepmother, guardian, carer, mentor or friend. Through their presence in our lives we experience care, encouragement and wisdom.

We thank you for the women who held us when we were small, who comforted us when we were hurt, who encouraged us when we doubted ourselves, and who celebrated with us in moments of joy and achievement. Their faithful presence reminds us that love is often shown in the quiet, everyday moments of life.

We thank you, loving God, for the many blessings of family life: for laughter shared around tables, for words of encouragement, for guidance offered with patience, and for the deep bonds of love that grow stronger with time.

Help us to recognise and appreciate the gift of these women in our lives. May their example of faithful love inspire us to live with kindness, generosity and compassion.

When life is uncertain, grant us your peace to guide our hearts and minds. Help us to remain faithful in love, patient in difficulty and generous in service to others.

As we journey through this Year of Fidelitas, may we grow in faith and in love, learning from the women who guide us. Like the butterfly that symbolises transformation and new life, may we continue to grow into the people you call us to be — people of courage, compassion and faithful love.

We would like to thank everyone for celebrating this special occasion with us and wholeheartedly thank our Hospitality students for their exceptional work.
