This year, our focus revolves around the 2024 College theme: "Spes," a powerful word that encapsulates the essence of hope. As we embark on this journey through 2024, we draw inspiration from the biblical quote, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19), anchoring ourselves in the unwavering hope that propels us forward in all that we do. As a Merici Community, we celebrate the transformative power of hope, recognizing it as a guiding force that illuminates our path and unites us in our shared vision.

Welcome to 2024!
The weekly Green Tip is intended to share ideas about how you can reduce your environmental footprint at school, home and work.
This term the focus is on waste. In particular, reducing waste to landfill.
At Merici you can use the yellow bins, the same as the yellow bins at home, to recycle:
✔️ glass bottles and jars – clean and empty
✔️ plastic bottles and containers – clean, empty and lids removed
✔️ steel and aluminium cans – clean and empty
✔️ paper – not shredded
✔️ cardboard – flattened
Welcome all to the commencement of the 2024 school year. I hope that you had a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year holiday season. I also trust that all are ready for:
2024 – a leap year, an Olympic year and a year that represents spiritual growth. And one thing is for sure – it will be a FABULOUS year at Merici.
Merici offers a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects at the College and also provides and supports opportunities to attend outside training facilities, such as CIT and other private training providers.

The pre-pandemic vibe of the Merici Science Department started to return in 2023, as events returned to face to face and more external science activities opened up for our students.
We welcomed St. Joesph and St. Thomas Mores Primary Schools to the College for Big Sister Science Days with our Year 9 students. This gave the primary school students an authentic experience; to conduct experiments in a laboratory using a range of equipment and explore sustainability all under the guidance of the older students, who got to share their science and teaching skills.
2023 has been another busy year for the SAM team. With a small but dedicated team led by Captain Matilda Ross, the award-winning Biodiversity Project has continued, largely maintaining the grounds. Students have participated in many events on the sustainability calendar including Ride2School Day, Earth Hour, World Environment Day and International Bee Day with funds raised for bee conservation. The Sw(op) Shop was also held to divert clothing from landfill.
