#MericiMoment - Jessica Thompson, Class of 2010

We recently asked members of our Alumni to provide a word that describes Merici College. Over the next few months we will share these words with you. Here is our first one, thanks Jess for your contribution!

“Humbling - It was a supportive school with students and staff supporting you along the way. It was really a journey through to becoming the woman I am today.” Jessica Thompson, Class of 2010.

Merici College Green Tip #28 - Is there a good fish?

Fishing is one of the most significant causes of declines in ocean wildlife populations.

Catching fish is not inherently bad for the ocean, except when fish are overfished, meaning that fish are caught faster than stocks can replenish.

The number of overfished stocks globally has tripled in half a century. One-third of the world's assessed fisheries are currently pushed beyond their biological limits, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

R U OK? Day

This week we will be participating in R U OK? Day on Thursday, 9 September which is a national day of action where Australians are reminded that every day is the day to ask, “are you okay?” if someone they know is struggling. Whilst working in lockdown, checking in on one another’s wellbeing is more important than ever.

Father's Day Celebration Video 2021

Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers or other father figures (such as stepfather, grandfather, uncle or close family friend)! Each year around Father’s Day, we host a Father-Daughter Mass and Dinner. Due to current restrictions, we have had to cancel the usual celebration and instead, to celebrate the father figures in our students’ lives, we have put together a virtual reflection video to the fathers in the Merici community, to thank them and celebrate their impact on their daughters’ lives.

Merici College Green Tip #25 - Parliament of Youth Speech Part 2

At this challenging time, here is something positive about what we can do to support the continued livability of our shared home.

The second part of the closing speech from the Parliament of Youth 2021 by Coordinator Anna Garnock......

"Wherever you end up though, it is likely that you come across people, or even whole institutions, that do not care about the environment, and do not do anything to help the environment - in fact, what they do may even really harm the environment.
