S.A.M’s GUIDE TO AN ECO-FRIENDLY FESTIVE SEASON
Christmas in the Wide Brown Land conjures up imagery of Santa delivering presents in his boardies, Paul Kelly making gravy (don’t forget tomato sauce for the sweetness/tang factor), and families gathering under Eucalyptus in blistering temps for lunch on the 25th. Not many sleigh bells, festive jumpers, or toasty fireplaces. But there is one seasonal stereotype we do share with our Northern Hemisphere neighbours – indulgence.
Congratulations to our Year 12 students on their graduation and academic achievements. We would like to thank the students for their valuable contribution to the life of Merici College and wish them success and happiness in all their future endeavours.
In October, Merici was awarded a Nude Food Week grant from Nutrition Australia to run two beeswax wrap-making workshops. Last week, we were lucky enough to have Gaby from the Canberra Environment Centre facilitating the workshops, where we learnt about preventing plastic use in the kitchen and made some beeswax wraps.
The Year 7 students at Merici College, have been developing their skills in the use of digital technologies and entrepreneurial skills. Over the course of the year, there has been multiple opportunities and activities which put these skills into place. This semester, they have been working in collaboration with the ACT Department of Health for their ‘It’s Your Move’ project. ‘It’s Your Move’ is an initiative supporting a healthy, active and a productive community.
We would like to thank our Dance Troupe students for their participation in many community events throughout the year. Girls, your enthusiasm and dedication in celebrating special events with our community has been amazing. You have been excellent ambassadors for Merici College!
A special Music Presentation Night was held on Thursday 23 November to recognise the efforts and achievements of our students who have participated in Merici's Music Program. We would like to thank our students for enriching our school culture and community.
