Biodiversity Restoration Project has started at Merici!

A Biodiversity Restoration project has commenced at Merici College which will have short-term and long-term stages.  Given the decline in Australian wildlife and biodiversity and Australia having the highest rate of species extinction in the world, largely due to land clearing and use of synthetic chemicals, it is important for Merici to make our contribution to the solution.  Merici can provide an important travel link and food source for wildlife between Black Mountain and Mount Ainslie.

2022 Drama Production, The Burial at Thebes

Congratulations to our Antigone cast and crew who worked long and hard to ensure that the performance drew our audience to the team’s dystopian interpretation of this traditional Greek play. Our talented students, along with students from Marist Radford, Burgmann and Erindale Colleges, continue to demonstrate the very high standards we have come to expect of Merici College.

Merici College Green Tip #24 - International Day of World's Indigenous People

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of the World's Indigenous People is observed on August 9 each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s Indigenous population.

Around 80% of the world’s remaining biodiversity is located where indigenous people live.

Studies have shown that fauna, flora and biodiversity flourish where indigenous people reside.

Processes for climate action and a sustainable future must be inclusive of indigenous knowledge

and environmental management skills and practices.

Merici College Green Tip #23 - National Tree Day

July 31 was National Tree Day and a tree will be planted at Merici next week to celebrate Australia’s largest community tree-planting and nature care event.

Trees are an essential part of Australia's biodiversity.

We need urgently to plant more trees as part of a broader plan for climate action. Discontinuing land clearing is also essential.

So, can you plant a native tree or shrub that is naturally occurring in your area?

Among the many benefits, you may attract more bird visitors!

Catholic Education School Board and Community Council Review

School Boards and Community Councils have an important role in the life of our schools. We value the knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm that parents and carers bring to these forums.

School governance is generating much discussion in Catholic school systems across Australia. This discussion stems in part from the changing expectations of parents, regulators, and governments about the role that parents, carers and members of school communities can and should play in the context of our schools, and the increasingly complex regulatory environment in which schools operate.
