Welcome to the 2021 school year. "We encourage every single one of you to dream big this year. Whether that be handing in all of your homework and assignments on time, or setting goals for your grades this semester, or figuring out what you want to do after high school, we implore you, not only dream, but work towards making those dreams a reality."
Heather Bravo and Caitlyn Crick, College Captains
We would like to thank our Merici family for celebrating Mass with us today. May your Christmas and New Year season be filled with lots of happiness, love and safety.
On Tuesday 11 August the Merici College school community celebrated the academic achievements of students in Semester 1, 2020 with over 300 students receiving awards that highlight their effort and joy of learning.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were unable to hold our Academic Awards ceremonies as normal this semester and conducted the ceremonies via live stream through our Merici College YouTube channel.
Our community celebrated Advent on Thursday 5 December with a very special Mass. We were very honoured to welcome our Celebrant, Fr Emil Milat from the Central Canberra parishes and Sr Genny Ryan, one of our Ursuline Sisters whose Order is instrumental to the foundation of Merici and who continue to inspire us today.
Our annual Father/Daughter dinner was held on Friday 30 August. The evening commenced with a very special Mass celebrated by Father Bernie Patterson and followed with a wonderful meal prepared by our Senior Hospitality students. We also welcomed Mrs Patricia Falcetta from Social Living and is a Family Joy Expert who spoke about the special relationship that fathers share with their daughters. Patricia also runs positive menstrual health education workshops and workshops for fathers as well called Fathers Celebrating Daughters.
2019 Book Week dress up parade was a huge success. Beautifully creative costumes, embracing the theme Reading is my secret power and some amazing likeness to Book Characters.
We would like to thank the businesses and individuals who donated items, as well as our fellow Canberra senior students, and the Merici College community for supporting the Lifeline Canberra Stress Down Day and raising $2,000 for Lifeline Canberra.
Our events continue today as we celebrate IWD (International Women's Day) with our students signing up for co-curricular activities. We have over 30 clubs that the students participate in and explore new interests.
Merici College Fashion and Textile students did extremely well again this year at the Canberra Show. We are very proud of all the efforts the girls have made. We would like to mention that several students entered items independently and also received awards. Students include Annabella McNamara Y7 received 1st for her quilt and Maria Georgiadis received 6 awards for a dress and a variety of baked goods. A huge thank you to Susan Anderson who gets all the entries in and does the drop off and pick up.
