On Thursday 27 July, Merici College hosted the 'Vinnies Night Out – Reduce, Reuse, Restyle' event which was a concert-style fundraising event for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. The event included a line-up of some of Canberra’s best up-and-coming talent including: DJs Toucan Music and Bangers and Mash; Bands Jacob Jones Keogh and Salad Buoys; and dancers from Bom Funk Dance Studio. A sausage sizzle, raffles and a dress-up competition were also part of the evening’s activities. Catholic schools with students from Years 10-12 came along and supported this event.
"This was such a wonderful time to thank our mums and grandmas for their constant love and support" Roisin Moore, 2017 School Captain
The Career Expo is designed for all Year 9 to Year 12 students and their parents are actively encouraged to attend. It is at this time that the girls can begin to gain an understanding of the extensive variety of courses that are available from all the major institutions within the ACT and surrounding regions. We would like to thank all our special guests and presenters for providing insightful advice to our students thinking about entering their respective career.
On Monday 3 April, the Merici College community reflected on the significance of Easter by exploring the Stations of the Cross and other important aspects of Holy Week in the Easter Liturgy. The liturgy was completely student-focussed with approximately 50 students leading all elements.
We wish our community a very Holy and safe Easter.
Earth Hour for Schools was held at Merici College on Friday 24 March. We were very pleased to welcome Minister Shane Rattenbury who joined with students and staff to make a "hand print" pledge to reduce their energy consumption. Minister Rattenbury also visited our kitchen garden and spoke to our Sustainabilty at Merici team about sustainability initiatives and strategies currently in place at the College. In the afternoon, all students and staff "flicked the switch" lights off.
Merici celebrated National Ride to School Day this morning. Students and staff who rode or walked to school were treated to a free and healthy breakfast courtesy of our lovely canteen staff and sustainability volunteers.
Merici offers a wide range of sporting, cultural, community service, creative and outdoor activities for students. To encourage student participation, an Activities Expo is held each year which provides students with the opportunity to investigate and enrol in any of the activities.
