Merici College held its Anzac Assembly on Tuesday 1 May. The assembly provided the community with the opportunity to pause and remember the men and women who have served in Australia’s Defence Force, honouring their memory. Guest speakers, Yr 10 student, Samantha Trafford and teacher Liza Laird shared their reflections on their recent Battlefields Tour of the Western Front, which they both won as part of the Simpson Prize Competition. Samantha spoke of her great uncle, Ray Trafford who was killed on the western front. Liza Laird focussed on the stories of Australians from all walks of life who served in the Great War. Officer cadets from the Australian Defence Force Academy provided the catafalque party for the assembly and we were also privileged to have a bagpiper and bugler in attendance.
