Year 10 Transitions Forum
On Monday 27 July Merici College held its annual Year 10 Transitions Forum. Held for a week, every year at this time, this is such an important experience for the Year 10 students of Merici College. During the forum the students considered how to make decisions, reflected on what is important in life, heard about a few different careers, learnt about the job market, prepared for senior study and much, much more.
The first day was themed ‘Day of Hope’ where the students focused on knowledge, understanding, values and attitudes that can help the lay the foundations for a hope-filled future. . It developed an understanding of the effects that external influences and personal cognitions have on the individual. By encouraging critical thinking, it provoked participants to counteract negativity and make informed, healthy choices. We were delighted to welcome Glen Gerreyn back to the College as our guest speaker and facilitator for the day.
The week continued with information sessions on study skills, resilience, life balance and finding out about senior studies and university entry requirements. Students also visited the Australian National University, Canberra Institute of Technology, University of Canberra, Australian Catholic University and ADFA where they gained an early “taste” of what it might mean to experience campus life whilst at university or TAFE. The week also included a Retreat Day and time spent on IB Personal Projects
I congratulate our Year 10 students for immersing themselves in the opportunities presented to them during the week. It was wonderful to see you let your hopes shape your future. Helen Keller said “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”
Congratulations everyone.
