The Year in CAPA

2025 Creative and Performing Arts at Merici

‘A growing body of Australian and international research demonstrates the enormous benefits that participating in The Arts can have on students’ academic and non-academic success.’

The Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) at Merici College continues to shine as one of the most vibrant, inspiring, and joyful parts of our community. From music that fills the air, to stories told on stage, to brushstrokes on canvas and images captured through a lens, 2025 has been a year where creativity has flourished in every corner of our College.

In a time when the value of Arts education is being championed across Australia, we at Merici are proud to be leaders in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence in our students. Research consistently highlights the importance of the Arts in empowering students to find their voice, express their perspectives, and engage with the world in bold and imaginative ways. The Arts are not just ‘extra’, they are essential to shaping capable, compassionate, and resilient young women.

Across the Department, our students have embraced opportunities to grow their talents. Dance students leapt into expressive movement, exploring stories through rhythm and ensemble work. Drama students tackled improvisation, devised work, and challenging scripts with passion and humour. In Music students honed their technical skills while building ensemble spirit and joyfully filling our college events with performance. Visual Arts students explored traditional and contemporary practices, developing their own artistic voice, whilst Photography and Media students captured stories through powerful images and digital creations, reminding us of the importance of perspective in a media-rich world.

Of course, one of the highlights of the year was our spectacular college musical, Legally Blonde JR. With boundless energy, dazzling pink costumes, and a cast and crew who gave their all, the production was a roaring success. It showcased the extraordinary talent, resilience, and spirit of our students, while also uniting our whole community in celebration. The laughter, applause, and standing ovations proved just how much the Arts bring people together.

As we look back on 2025, we are reminded that the Arts give our students more than skills, they give them courage, creativity, empathy, and joy. The CAPA faculty is proud to walk alongside our students as they continue to reimagine, reinvent, and inspire through their artistry.

Here’s to another year of colour, creativity, and connection.
