Opening School Mass

Let us go forward as Merici wisdom women with Jesus the heart of our community.

As Merici College family we gathered yesterday, Wednesday 15 February, to celebrate our 2023 Opening School Mass.

This is a new beginning with fresh hopes and unknown possibilities. Maybe even some concerns are emerging in our hearts.So how will we embrace what may unfold for us, day by day.

Our school theme for 2023, Communitas will guide us on our journey. We are encouraged to reflect on the inclusiveness of our community and the relationships that we have with one another.

The Theologian: Bernard Lonergan reminds us:

“The person does not come first.

What comes first is the community”

The symbols of WELL and LOAVES AND FISHES against a RED background reflect the compassionate actions of Jesus in today’s gospel and we are inspired to live our lives as valued members of the community in service of others.

The Gospel challenged us, as Angela Merici was challenged, to think about others, to build positive relationships and to become people of compassion, humility and service.

The first reading from St Paul to the Corinthians gives us another clue when he reminds us that;

“as in one body we have many members”

So let us go forward as Merici wisdom women with Jesus the heart of our community.  May Angela Merici and all the saints of our Founding Sisters support us with their prayers so that we may grow in faithful service that reflects a more compassionate world.
