National Reconciliation Week 2023

During this time we reflect and acknowledge Indigenous history, knowledge and culture within Australia.

This week, 27 May until 3 June, we as a Merici College community join the rest of Australia in the celebration of National Reconciliation Week 2023. During this time we reflect and acknowledge Indigenous history, knowledge and culture within Australia. Furthermore, we use this time to have open discussions about how we as individuals, communities and as a nation can foster reconciliation inspired by this year’s theme “Be a Voice for Generations”.

During this week our community will be surrounded by posters provided by Reconciliation Australia, giving our community the ability to be educated about reconciliation and how they can contribute. We will also have activities on to teach our girls about different Indigenous symbols and then utilising that knowledge to create a simple school Songline. Finally, we will be having a session in which our school will create pledges towards reconciliation that we be using as a part of our NAIDOC Week Celebrations next term.

We would also like to acknowledge the winners of our National Reconciliation Week Poster Competition, Audrey J., Beatrice M., Ananya S., Lola R., and Alizaih M. Beautiful work ladies!
