On Monday 27 November, our community acknowledged the achievements of our Mentors and Volunteers at a very special afternoon tea. The Mentoring Program continues to be an amazing partnership between the communities of Merici College and Black Mountain School (BMS). The relationship begins in Year 9, with volunteers giving up their time fortnightly for a semester to go over to BMS to work with students with disabilities on their communication skills.
BMS students attended Merici for work experience, learning a variety of skills including: mail deliveries, workplace etiquette, communication, hospitality, decision making, patience, gardening, teamwork and productivity. The Year 10 mentoring students finish the year with a Certificate 1 in Active Volunteering.
This partnership would not be as successful if it were not for the support of both communities. We thank everyone who supports and is involved in the program and the generous, patient nature of the Year 10 Mentoring students.
