As a part of Year 12 Graduation traditions, we present to a graduating cohort The Dux and Runner-up awards to the highest performing students based on their ATAR.
In previous years, we presented these awards at our Year 12 Graduation Dinner but as IB Diploma results are not released until January, we now begin a new tradition of announcing the winners at our Opening Mass in the following year.
The runner-up Dux is formally known as Proxime Accessite. This in latin translates to – she came next. The 2023 winner of this award is a BSSS student who completed a very strong academic package. She was the Merici winner of the Individual Subject Award for Psychology. She was also the highest performing student in the ACT for Psychology – an impressive achievement. This student commenced at Merici in Year 10 and took advantage of every opportunity. She was also a House Captain for the wonderful Tullow House. It is my pleasure to announce the Proxime Accessite for 2023 is Jasmine Evans.
The word Dux in latin means leader. Our 2023 recipient of this prize was a quiet leader throughout the school. She was an IB Diploma student who has academic strength in all areas of school study. She was also part of our Gifted and Talented Program, where she was accelerated a whole year group, she actually skipped Year 8. She was a recipient of the prestigious St Angela Merici Award for her contribution to school life, giving of herself both inside and outside of the school. I was also blessed to have taught this fine student and I can tell you that she is amazing. With great joy I announce that the Merici College Dux for 2023 is Aryana Niyakan-Safy.
Congratulations and well deserved!
