Father and Daughter Liturgy and Dinner

'Heart of the Father' Liturgy and Dinner

On Tuesday 27 August, over 100 Merici fathers and their daughters participated in our annual Father/Daughter ' Heart of the Father' Liturgy and Dinner. It was wonderful celebrating the significance of fathers and male role models in the lives of all, in the formation of each and everyone of us and in the creation of deeply meaningful communities. The father figures in our lives play a hugely significant role in shaping us and Merici women are also blessed to have men in their lives who offer safe landings and firm support, enabling them to grow, flourish, take risks and always feel safe in doing so.

We also welcomed Glenn Gerreyn from the Hopefull Institute as our guest speaker. As a father of four, Glen understands first-hand how parenting can indeed be one of the toughest jobs in the world. He also knows how rewarding it is to see one’s children growing up feeling loved and assured, developing a close bond with their parents. In his presentation, Glen shared the five fundamental positive parenting tools, based on recent positive psychology research to better connect fathers with their daughters and to empower them to tackle a complex world. Glenn covered such topics as: How to help your child find a vision; the rules of encouragement; how to be present; teaching your children how to fail; how to say you’re sorry and making the home a refuge.

We would like to thank the Canteen and Hospitality students and staff for preparing an amazing meal and our fathers and daughters for your presence and participation in this event.
