Facilities Update - Junior Food Tech kitchen

We look forward to seeing our students learning and cooking up lots of delicious food!

Over the Christmas holiday break, the junior food-tech kitchen was refurbished. It was once the senior/commercial kitchen, i.e, before the modern commercial kitchen we now enjoy as part of the Trades Training Centre facility for senior hospitality classes.

Being cluttered and crowded, the previous kitchen presented many safety risks, and  was an inefficient use of the available space. Students of junior food-tech classes were criss-crossing the room to access bench mounted cooktops and sinks, and there were trip hazards from electrical leads to appliances due to random location of power outlets. Classroom management was difficult especially during practicals.

However as a junior food-tech kitchen space, whilst we made do for many years, it was not fit for purpose.

The new kitchen was modelled on the food-tech room immediately next door for design, and our new science labs for colours and décor.

It represents a vast improvement in ergonomics, amenity and safety.

Thanks to our builder Paul Walker for his magnificent work.

We look forward to seeing our students learning and cooking up lots of delicious food!
