ANZAC Assembly

L-R: Loretta Wholley (Principal), Emma Garrett (Year 11), Captain Lisa Batchler (Guest Speaker), Corinne Preston (Global Studies Coordinator)

Merici College held its Anzac Assembly on Tuesday 30 April. The assembly provided the community with the opportunity to pause and remember the men and women who have served in Australia’s Defence Force, honouring their memory. In particular we celebrated our theme 'Honouring Women in the Australian Defence Forces'.

Our guest speaker, Captain Lisa Batchler spoke about the rich and colourful history of the Australian Defence Force and women in many areas of service. "From nurses who served with distinction in terrible conditions in WW1, to the women in the auxiliary and paramilitary arms of the Army, Navy, and Air Force performing key supporting roles to assist the war effort in the 1940s, to those women at the cutting edge of combat roles in 2019 - flying fighter aircraft, manning armoured tanks and commanding warships on operations in the Persian Gulf and the Northern approaches to Australia. They are forging a new path, for themselves and for those who will follow."  [Full Article]
