Our annual Father/Daughter Dinner, “The Heart of the Father” was held on Friday 2 September. The evening commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Father Emil Milat in our newly renovated Jubilee Chapel. After Mass, our fathers and their daughters enjoyed a wonderful three-course meal prepared by our Senior Hospitality students. We also welcomed Glenn Gerreyn from the Hopefull Institute as our guest speaker. As a father of four, Glen understands first-hand how parenting can indeed be one of the toughest jobs in the world. He also knows how rewarding it is to see one’s children growing up feeling loved and assured, developing a close bond with their parents. In his presentation, Glen shared the five fundamental positive parenting tools, based on recent positive psychology research to better connect fathers with their daughters and to empower them to tackle a complex world. Glenn covered such topics as: How to help your child find a vision; the rules of encouragement; how to be present; teaching your children how to fail; how to say you’re sorry and making the home a refuge.
Throughout the evening, fathers and daughters wrote and exchanged love letters, based on the theme – “Two Hearts, One Love”. The evening closed with a quiz game to identify how well they knew each other. It was such a special time shared between our Merici fathers and daughters and we would like to thank everyone for their attendance and participation.
We would especially like to thank our Senior Hospitality students and staff for their exceptional culinary skills.
