Open Day Thank You!

We would like to acknowledge the wonderful contribution made by students which, in no small part, contributed to the success of our Open Day. Over 200 students participated in Open Day activities during the day and into the night. The students were all wonderful ambassadors for our school and we have received excellent feedback from all our visitors on your exceptional skills in conducting school tours, participating in classroom activities, and presenting dance, music and drama performances.

Merici team in the ACT’s first ever ‘Philosothon’ Competition!

On Wednesday 8 May, the Merici team in the ACT’s first ever ‘Philosothon’ competition won an impressive 3rd place overall and have earned Merici a place at the Australasian Philosothon, to be held later this year and involving schools from across Australia and New Zealand. This was a fine achievement at a high level competition. Anna Wearden of Year 10 also won 1st place from all students in her year level. Congratulations to the team and to Anna.

Student Achievements - Equestrian

Year 8 Students Charly Robinson and Lexie Young represented Merici at the recent Snowy Mountains Interschools Competition  (SMIEC) at Jindabyne. Both girls put in solid performances on all 4 days with Charly winning and placing in the 1m and 1.10m showjumping as well as gaining the overall top score in the Stockman's Challenge. 

They represented Merici with pride and presented themselves and their horses beautifully.

We congratulate Charly and Lexie on their achievements.

 

Student Achievement - Rosemary Zielinski to represent Australia at the Asian Physics Olympiad

Merici College congratulates Rosemary Zielinski who is one of eight of Australia’s top performing student physicists making the team to represent Australia at the Asian Physics Olympiad to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 5 to 13 May. They will compete against more than 200 of Asia’s smartest kids representing 26 other countries and regions.The Australian Year 11 and 12 students are from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Sutton, NSW. They will compete in theoretical and experimental exams that draw on first-year university physics, and will try to win gold for Australia.

Student Achievement - Under 15’s National Hockey Tournament

We congratulate Imogen Dorsett who is currently participating in the Under 15’s National Hockey Tournament. The Under 15 ACT team are doing well with tough opposition in their group, so far against NSW, QLD, VIC and WA lost 3 and drawn 1 but all very competitive matches. They play Tasmania at 2pm this afternoon and then into the play offs over the weekend.

We wish Imogen lots of luck in this afternoon's games!

 

Student Achievement - US National Snowboard Championships

Kasey Kelley competed in the US National Snowboard Championships last week, held in Colorado.  On Friday 5 April, she raced in Giant Slalom and finished 4th in her age group. She was against 27 other girls from all across America. The top 8 went into a shootout scenario, so she made it through a few heats to take 4th spot.

After qualifying 9th in the time trials in Kasey's main event of Boarder X, Kasey had a fall in the quarter finals, finishing 15th out of 41 girls.

Student wins Gold at 2019 Singapore National Figure Skating Championships

We congratulate Monique Lawrence (Year 12) who recently competed in the 2019 Singapore National Figure Skating Championships and was awarded Gold in the Advanced Novice Ladies category.

The Singapore National Figure Skating Championships are held in Jurong, Singapore and this year there were 139 competitors from over 13 countries. Monique competed against eight skaters from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia.
