Student Achievement

Open Day Thanks!

We would like to acknowledge the wonderful contribution made by students which, in no small part, contributed to the success of our Open Day. Over 200 students participated in Open Day activities during the day and into the night. The students were all wonderful ambassadors for our school and we have received excellent feedback from all our visitors on your exceptional skills in conducting school tours, participating in Science, Mathematics, Food Technology, Art and Textiles classroom activities, presenting dance, music, vocal and drama performances.

Student Exchange Experience - Gabrielle Shoebridge

What made you apply for an exchange program?

Way back in 2014, when I was in Year 2, my family went on a ‘big trip’ around Europe – we spent a week in Berlin, and I was hooked (looking back, it was probably the colourful, life-size bear statues we ran into wherever we went). I’ve been taking German lessons ever since. The more I learned about the language and culture, the more I craved to be there, in Germany, surrounded by it all – an exchange seemed like the perfect opportunity for me.

Big Sister Science Day

It was wonderful having Year 6 students from St Joseph's Primary School attend our Big Sister Science Day today.

The Year 6 students joined our Year 9 Science classes to support their classroom learning as they are currently studying volcanos. Our Year 9 students assisted the students in exploring Earth Science activities, rotating around 8 stations. This also included a demo volcano experiment with dry ice and warm water! The students also participated in a Sustainability class, planting seedlings and visiting our kitchen garden.

Gift of Life Walk 2023

Sincere thanks to all our community for supporting our Gift of Life Walk this morning. We would like to extend our thanks to Josh and Ned and the Canberra FM crew for broadcasting live from Merici this morning and helping us raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. Special thanks to Cath Scott and all the staff at Gift of Life Inc. for their involvement and support. We would also like to thank Clem and Liam O'Donnell for sharing their story this morning.

Don't forget everyone, register to become a donor! www.giftoflife.asn.au

IB MYP Personal Project Awards Ceremony

Certificates provide to schools to recognise the achievements in the Middle Years programme on IB Australasia, a professional network that is formally recognised by the IB to provide support in our region.

Merici College Student Achievements at Canberra Show

Congratulations to all our students who entered their work for displays at the Canberra Show. All the entries were exceptional and we thank you for your dedication to your studies of Textiles and Fashion at Merici College. We would also like to thank over 40 students who volunteered to help at the Show, through the exceptional organisation and support of Maria Georgiadis, Year 12 students. All our students were wonderful ambassadors for Merici College and eagerly supporting and assisted at stalls.

Student Exchange Experience - Harriette Maguire

Back in 2018, I visited Italy with my family which was such a memorable experience, so I decided to start learning the language when I came to Merici in Year 7. When the WEP overseas exchange experience came up, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to go back to Italy and be able to use all the language skills that Merici had taught me over the past 4 years. Especially after the pandemic, I was so excited to travel and be able to see new places again. I went into it trying not to set any expectations, which prompted me to have an open mind.
