Merici College Green Tip #30 - Stop Climate Change

According to the Australian Conservation Foundation 350,000 people nationwide participated in last Friday’s student-led #ClimateStrike  the biggest climate mobilisation in Australia’s history.

Thank you to the many Merici students and staff who went to Glebe Park to show their support for urgent action to address climate change.

Student Achievement - Taylah Ellems represents Australia at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tournament

This week Taylah Ellems has been in Canada, representing Australia at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tournament.

A team of four boys and two girls, aged 15-18 were selected to represent Australia at the National Team Challenge in Niagara Falls. It was a 54-hole tournament and Australia was up against some strong countries from Canada, Mexico and the USA. A total of 90 juniors played over the three days.

Australia was victorious and the talented Australian juniors have taken out the team honours in Canada at @maplejt event. 

Student Achievement - Jade Esler joins the RAAF as an Officer Aviation Candidate – Pilot - ADFA

Each year, we have a growing number of students in Year 12 who apply for recruitment to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) as a pathway for their future career. As part of this recruitment, the Defence Force Academy choose the best students to recognise for their performance in the recruitment process.

Olivia Horvat awarded ACT School-Based Apprentice of the Year

We are very proud to announce that Olivia Horvat, Year 12 student has been awarded ACT Australian School-Based Apprentice of the Year.

Dance Troupe performance at St Andrew's Aged Care

Our Dance Troupe performed an hour long concert for the residents at St. Andrews Village in Hughes on Saturday, 31 August. The girls were absolutely fantastic and we have already been asked back to perform again nearer Christmas! The residents were clapping and tapping their feet and were very appreciative.

We would like to thank our dancers for their ongoing commitment to entertaining our community and attending community events.

 

Merici Representation at the Legislative Assembly Parliamentary Debates

On Friday 30 August, it was the turn of Year 9 and 10 students to represent Merici at the Legislative Assembly Parliamentary debates.

Issy Dunn, Pragnya Gupta, Anna Wearden and Mishal Kamran delivered very polished arguments and represented us with pride. They really enjoyed their experience and have asked me to recommend that we keep sending teams to these events.

Student Achievement - Taylah Ellems Australian School Sports Golf Championships

Last week Taylah Ellems (Year 11) went to Mandurah in Western Australia to represent Merici College and the ACT in the Australian School Sports Golf Championship.

As the girl's Captain, Taylah shot 77 and 78 in stoke and played number 1 in match play. Taylah won 3 out of 5 matches, winning  3/2 against WA, 3/2 against QLD and 4/3 against SA which are some of the strongest teams with in Australia.

Her strong performance saw her rewarded in making the School Girls All Australian Team for 2019.
