Merici Representation at the Legislative Assembly Parliamentary Debates

Issy Dunn, Pragnya Gupta, Anna Wearden and Mishal Kamran delivered very polished arguments and represented us with pride.

On Friday 30 August, it was the turn of Year 9 and 10 students to represent Merici at the Legislative Assembly Parliamentary debates.

Issy Dunn, Pragnya Gupta, Anna Wearden and Mishal Kamran delivered very polished arguments and represented us with pride. They really enjoyed their experience and have asked me to recommend that we keep sending teams to these events.

For the record, the student politicians decided by vote:

  • That NAPLAN should not be abolished
  • That voting should not be made optional
  • That individuals’ rights to privacy are not being breached by social media companies
  • That the ACT and the NT should have greater representation in federal parliament
  • That driverless cars would not lower the road toll
  • That drug testing should not be conducted in schools
  • That the No Jab No Play does not breach parents’ right to choose to vaccinate their children.

Congratulations girls!
