Staff Achievement

International Day of the Girl is an international observance day declared by the United Nations and is held on 11 October each year. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and unfree child marriage.

I chose a pilgrimage journey for my Principal’s Renewal Program as a source of spiritual strength, a time of repentance, thanksgiving, prayer and meditation. Also as an opportunity for me to encounter the love of God, learn about the miracles and works of Our Lady and the Saints and deepen my faith. I was privileged to be entrusted to take with your prayers for peace, for discernment, for healing in our hearts, minds bodies, for those who have died and for justice in the world.

On Wednesday 4th October, the inaugural Ski and Snowboard Australia Day Conference at Rushcutters Bay in Sydney was held. It is a forum of the who’s who in winter sports that discusses everything snowsports not just Interschools itself (such as event organisation, rules of racing etc), but indeed everything in the development of future ski racers and snowsports athletes – including pathways to the Winter Olympics.

Congratulations Sarah McRae, teacher at Merici College, who was inducted into the Louisiana University, USA,  Hall of Fame for Athletics.

Merici College's Fiona Buining (Sustainability/Science Teacher), Bec DeCourcy (Sustainability Officer) and Caitlin Treble (Year 10 Sustainability student) spoke to Genevieve Jacobs, Journalist at ABC Radio, about Merici College being selected as one of Australia's top Innovative Schools for 2017 in 'The Educator' magazine. 'The Educator' received a record number of entries this year so being selected as one of the final 40 nationwide is a fantastic achievement.  Our submission provided details of our Sustainability/Healthy Canteen/Kitchen Garden Program.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Coe to the position of Deputy Principal, Development.

Prior to this appointment, Phil has worked as Head of Senior School at Merici College for the past 7 years, was Head of Information Technology at the Grey Coat school in central London for 4 years, a teacher at St Mary Mackillop Catholic College for 2 years and worked for 7 years as a Business Analysis/Computer Programmer at Airservices Australia immediately after completing university.
