International Day of the Girl ABC Radio Canberra Interview

ABC Radio Canberra and Merici students reflect on International Day of the Girl

International Day of the Girl is an international observance day declared by the United Nations and is held on 11 October each year. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and unfree child marriage. The celebration of the day also "reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research.

Merici welcomed the opportunity of participating in a live radio interview at the College conducted by ABC Radio Canberra with students Ashley Frater, Jade Esler and Kate Connolly. Loretta Wholley (Merici College Principal), Phil Coe (Merici College Deputy Principal Development) and Annabelle Pegrum AM were also interviewed. A special breakfast was also held with members of Merici’s Student Representative Council and guests.
