St Angela Merici Festival

It was wonderful to see so many members of our community at our Festival on Saturday 1 June as one of the many faces who have moved through Merici’s doors over the last 60 years. As a future member of the Alumni, it is great to see the College’s connection with ex-students continue to grow.

New House Crests

On Friday 31 May, as part of St Angela Merici Day and in celebration of our 60th Anniversary, new House crests were unveiled to our community. Our House Story was also presented to our community which covered the history of our Houses.

Merici teams through to National Titration Stakes

Last night the Research School of Chemistry at the ANU held the annual ACT Titration Stakes - a chemistry competition. The two Merici teams (Yr 11: Shreya Bhatnagar, Emma Howse and Ashlyn Radford; Yr 12: Jade Esler, Japneet Kaur, Rosie Zielinski) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively from 29 teams and will compete again in the nationals in Term 3.

This is great work by both teams, but particularly impressive for the Yr 11s, who only did their first titration about three weeks ago!

The displayed photo shows them with the new head of school, Professor Penny Brothers.

Merici Green Tip #13 - Q & A with Damon Gameau

On Monday 13 May, 12 of our students were invited to Daramalan College to attend a Q & A with Damon Gameau about his new film 2040.

2040 is an innovative feature documentary that looks to the future, but is vitally important NOW. Award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) embarks on journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream.

Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 Da Vinci Decathlon Outstanding Results

The Year 7 and 8 teams competed at Canberra Grammar as usual in the ACT competition, accompanied Mrs Renee Taylor, Deputy Principal Learning and Year 12 student Jade Esler.

The Year 8s won the Ideation and Art & Poetry challenges.

The Year 7s won Art & Poetry, were 2nd in English, 3rd in Engineering and Creative Producers, and took 3rd place overall.  This is our best result in the junior competition for some years.

Mother's Day Prayer and Breakfast

We would like to thank all our mums, grandmothers, aunties and significant others from our Merici family for attending our Mother's Day Prayer and Breakfast this morning, Monday 13 May. The focus of the Prayer was centred around the ongoing nurturing that mothers provide to their children every day. Students wrote messages of thanks, appreciation and love to their mums and significant others; recognising the important role they play in their lives. After the Prayer, guests and students enjoyed a delicious breakfast catered by our Hospitality staff in the restaurant.
