Principal's Welcome Letter 2023

Welcome all to the commencement of the 2023 school year. I hope that you had a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year holiday season. I also trust that all are ready for:

  • a fresh beginning,
  • to be open to new experiences, and
  • are looking to continue your journey to human growth and fullness of being in 2023.

I would like to take this opportunity of welcoming our new Year 7s and students who have joined the Merici community in Years 8 through to Year 12.

The Year in Religious Education

This year saw change continue within the Religious Education Department! More of our staff undertook Catalyst training and this has resulted in important changes to teaching practice that have been welcomed by the students in all year levels – daily reviews and full student participation are part of lessons. All teachers have used the SEQTA learning management system, resulting in greater access for students and parents to daily lessons materials, assessment tasks and feedback.

The Year in Inclusive Education

2022 has been a year of wonderful endeavours for Inclusive Education at Merici College. With the ever-growing team of professionals we have seen The Hub, our central location, become a consistent hive of activity for students from across all year groups needing additional support. This space houses many varying aspects of improving learning for students.

Merici College Green Tip #39 - Happy Christmas!

Wishing you a safe, happy and low waste Christmas!

When decorating consider...

So much joy can come from Christmas decorations, as well as a lot of waste.

Consider switching to LED lights that use less energy, and cut down on plastic decorations, tinsel and baubles that break easily and end up in landfill.

Instead, swap for biodegradable materials like paper and wood. Paper tinsel exists and can be easily personalised with a bit of creativity.

When eating consider...

Year 10 Academic Awards Ceremony

Principal's Address 2022

Year 10 Awards Ceremony 2022

Today we gather to celebrate the end of the academic calendar in a year of challenges, joys and the building of a culture of seeing the “other” through service. We also take this opportunity to recognise the successes, strength, resilience and passion exhibited by our young women in 2022. So much has been achieved, both academically and more broadly, by our students who have had the courage to serve our community whilst honouring their own dreams and capabilities.
