Sustainability Blog #1

I’m writing this post from my desk at Merici on a pleasant mid-February morning. The sun is shining, and a cool breeze drifts into the office from the window on my left. It’s a stark contrast to the sweltering conditions that gripped most of Australia’s east coast from Friday until Sunday.

Merici Weekly Green Tip

Here is our green tip for the week:

Did you know…

You can recycle soft plastics at Coles
Supermarket in Canberra??

Coles has partnered with REDcycle to collect plastic that can’t be recycled at home.

You can take in your soft plastic, such as plastic bags, plastic food wrapping, snap lock bags, which is used to create furniture for schools, preschools and community groups.

Year 7 students hit the ground running with sustainability

The head honchos of Sustainability at Merici (SAM) enjoyed working with Year 7s this week. At Merici, we pride ourselves on our culture of sustainability, which pervades life at the College. This week, our new Year 7 students participated in workshops during their Integrated Humanities classes where they learned about our three-bin waste management system, our Flick the Switch campaign, and our student environment group, SAM. A big thank you to Year 12 SAM legends Julia2  (Julia Page and Julia Heather) for helping to facilitate the activities.

Dance Troupe in our Community

Our Dance Troupe were out and about in our community on Saturday 3 December at the Gold Creek Village Christmas Festival. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking all our dance members for their continued support and participation in community events and look forward to many dance opportunities in 2017.
