Garden Joy!

Merici College shares some garden joy … You know life is good when you get back to our Kitchen Garden and there is a bountiful harvest! All that the students planted in Term 4 2017 has borne fruit.

Yesterday we harvested for the Canteen:

6 kg beans

5 kg cherry tomatoes

6.5 kg large tomatoes

18 kg Lebanese cucumbers

12 kg apple cucumbers

1.7 kg fairy tales eggplants

5 kg Lebanese eggplants

1 kg normal zucchini

Welcome from our College Captains

We are looking very forward to seeing all the students and teachers again soon, as well as getting to know our new students and their families.

We would like to welcome you to the 2018 school year. We are committed to supporting you throughout this year and welcome the opportunity of getting to know you better. So, please, if you see us around the school, stop for a hello; we are here to help you settle into school life and are most happy to hear any great ideas you have that will enrich our school culture.

Merici Weekly Green Tip #24 - Sam's Guide to an Eco-Friendly Festive Season

S.A.M’s GUIDE TO AN ECO-FRIENDLY FESTIVE SEASON

Christmas in the Wide Brown Land conjures up imagery of Santa delivering presents in his boardies, Paul Kelly making gravy (don’t forget tomato sauce for the sweetness/tang factor), and families gathering under Eucalyptus in blistering temps for lunch on the 25th. Not many sleigh bells, festive jumpers, or toasty fireplaces. But there is one seasonal stereotype we do share with our Northern Hemisphere neighbours – indulgence.

Nutrition Australia Grant for Beeswax Wrap-Making Workshops

In October, Merici was awarded a Nude Food Week grant from Nutrition Australia to run two beeswax wrap-making workshops. Last week, we were lucky enough to have Gaby from the Canberra Environment Centre facilitating the workshops, where we learnt about preventing plastic use in the kitchen and made some beeswax wraps.
