Student Achievement - Caitlyn Crick awarded Simpson Prize ACT Runner-Up

We congratulate Caitlyn Crick (Year 10 Balgo) who has received the ACT runner-up award for the 2019 Simpson Prize essay competition, for her essay about the end of the First World War. A wonderful achievement in a national competition!

Caitlyn enjoyed a weekend of touring Canberra’s historic sights and museums with other prize winners from around the country, and received her award on Monday 18 March.

International Exchange Program - Student Reflections

Ella Rowe (Host) and Cynthia Zhang (Exchange Student) share their experiences about their recent participation in the exchange program.

Cynthia Zhang (Exchange Student)

On 4th February, the ten-days travel in Melbourne is over. It also means the days at Merici College and the life with Ellen’s family has started. Before I went to Australia, I already kept in contact with Ellen on email for a long time, but it’s the first time I met her father, mother and her sister Alice. They are all very kind and funny!

Merici Green Tip #7 - National Ride or Walk to School Day

This Friday, 22 March is National Ride to School Day.

Where possible please consider riding or walking to school. To our families, please consider riding or walking to work or wherever you may be going. Walking or riding part of the way is also a good compromise!

While you are riding or walking to work or school take a few moments to consider how you might apply this on other days. Choose to ride or walk short trips, such as to your local shops, wherever possible.

100% hOPE ...Giving children a future and a hope!

The 100% Hope Choir’s performance at Merici College was inspirational. The enthusiasm of the audience was as infectious as the passion and energy of the 9 Ugandan students who danced, drummed and sang their way into the hearts of our students. The message of Hope was subtle, no preaching, just story telling. We feel privileged to have had the honour of hosting the choir and will certainly do it again. Our only regret is that the whole school was not able to see it.

International Women’s Day - Strength as Women!

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Celebrated on March 8, the day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for this year was #BalanceforBetter and to support this special occasion, the Merici community received a white lapel ribbon representing the College’s symbol for the year, the white lily/fleur de lis to wear with pride, as well as hosting an IWB Strength as Women cocktail party.

Merici Green Tip #6 - Our SAMs

A record number of students have signed up to be part of the Sustainability at Merici (SAM) Group. Almost ninety students signed up last Thursday at our Activities Expo, more than 10% of the student population. A reflection of the growing awareness of urgent action on climate change and environmental protection! Enjoy our photos from our Activities Expo. Well done to Gabby Cox, our Sustainability Captain for her efforts in organising the stall and speaking to our students.

IWD Principal's Blog

I am a proud graduate of a Catholic, all-girls school. I attended St Brigid’s College in Lesmurdie in WA from Kindy to Year 12 and last year celebrated my graduating class’s 30th reunion.

I am now the proud principal of a Catholic, all-girls school. At Merici we support every student, academically, spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially, in their endeavour to create a pathway where they can try, fail, learn, succeed and celebrate.
