Student Achievement - Hair Donation to Wigs for Kids

Congratulations and thank you Ruby Brayshaw (Year 8) who had a significant hair cut during the school holidays. Ruby has always had long hair and this haircut was a big decision, made to benefit someone else. She cut off 40cm of her hair to donate to ‘Wigs 4 Kids’, her hair will be made into a wig for a child who is undergoing cancer treatment. Ruby hopes the wig will help to make the difficult journey through cancer treatment a little easier for the recipient. To donate your hair it needs to be at least 20cm length.

Celebrating Grandparents Day at Merici

Celebrating Grandparents Day at Merici College!

Wednesday 26 July was a heart-warming day as our Year 7 girls warmly welcomed their beloved grandparents to Merici College. It was an occasion filled with love, laughter, and appreciation for the special role grandparents play in our lives. The day began with a beautiful liturgy dedicated to celebrating the unique and cherished bond between grandparents and grandchildren. We honoured the wisdom, love, and guidance they generously share with us.

They completed 58 hours of training across 12 weeks, including spending the bulk of the July school holidays volunteering at Questacon as science communicators. It was a huge accomplishment for them to be recognised and they certainly represented Merici with pride! Congratulations! #mericipride #empoweringindependence

Merici College Green Tip #32: Recyclopaedia

When items that are not acceptable in your kerbside collection bins come to the end of their use, what can you do with them?

Disposal to landfill should be the last resort and many items can have their life extended.

To help with your decision making, the ACT government has a very useful online resource known as the Recyclopaedia.

It is an A-Z sorting guide.

Merici College Green Tip #31: Will climate change affect you?

According to the image above, if you live anywhere in Australia, you will be affected by climate change induced water stress in the form of droughts or floods.

Already across much of Australia, devastating drought and floods have occurred in recent years.

The water crisis will impact the most populated regions of the world by 2040.

Merici College Green Tip #20 - What is Sustainability?

What is Sustainability?

While carbon emissions reduction is significant in promoting sustainability, sustainability itself is much broader.

It encompasses environmental, economic, and social aspects of life, with separate attention to every component in order to foster sustainability and long-term development while preserving a healthy planet for generations to come.

Merici College Vinnies Sleepout 2023

A huge thanks to all our students and staff who participated in the Vinnies School Sleepout last night. It was a night of solidarity and compassion where our girls braved the cold and wet weather. By 'sleeping out' the girls helped to raise awareness and support for the homeless in our community. We would like to extend our special thanks and appreciation to Teah, one of the Vinnies School Engagement workers for her presentation on homelessness and supporting the girls throughout the night!
