Merici College Green Tip #14 - Ditch the Scoop

Here is something that we can all do to reduce our plastic waste...

Coles has committed to removing the plastic measuring scoops from Coles Brand laundry powders.

The initiative is expected to save three tonnes of plastic in a single year.
Use your purchasing power to support sustainability promoting initiatives.

A small change we can all make.

Merici College Green Tip #13 - What does your email have to do with CO2?

Spam emails, unread emails, and unwanted emails contribute to carbon emissions.

Emails, texts, and messages are stored in data centres. In 2019, 293.6 billion emails were sent per day.

Of those 107 billion were spam emails.

If everyone around the world deleted 10 emails,

that would cut 39,035 metric tonnes of CO2 which is equivalent

to 19,356 tonnes of coal being burned every day.

Solution:

Unsubscribe from emails you don’t need,

Delete spam emails,

Mother's Day Prayer Reflection and Lunch

On Friday 6 May, our College was honoured by the presence of more than 90 mothers, grandmothers and significant others from our Merici family. The focus of the Prayer was centred around the love of a mother and ongoing nurturing that mothers provide to their children every day. Students wrote messages of thanks, appreciation and love to their mums and significant others; recognising the important role they play in their lives. After the Prayer, guests and students enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared and served by Senior Hospitality students.

Merici College Green Tip #12 - Recycle your beauty product packaging

There is still room in the TerraCycle box for you to divert waste from landfill and drop your used makeup packaging for collection in Student Services.

Acceptable packaging includes mascara tubes, lipstick cases, eyeshadow trays, any makeup packaging that cannot be recycled through the kerbside collection system.

TerraCycle is a highly awarded, international upcycling and recycling company that collects difficult-to-recycle packaging and products and repurposes the material into affordable, innovative products.

Merici College Green Tip #11 - International Earth Day

Welcome back to Term 2!

While we were on holidays, it was International Earth Day on April 22nd. A timely moment to reflect on the business climate, the political climate, and how to act on the climate challenge.

Now is the time to preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods, our food security and our biodiversity.

In honour of Earth Day 2022,  act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably).

It’s going to take all of us.

All in.

ANZAC Assembly 2022

Today, Wednesday 27 April, Merici College held a very special Anzac Assembly. The assembly provided the community with the opportunity to pause and remember the men and women who have served in Australia’s Defence Force, honouring their memory. In particular we celebrated our theme Serving our Community. It was an honour to welcome our guest speaker, Captain Kate Ryan, Royal Australian Navy. Captain Ryan entered the Royal Australian Navy via ADFA in 1990 and trained as a Maritime Warfare Officer.
