Merici College Green Tip #28 – Which country is the world’s highest emitter of CO2?

Which country is the world’s highest emitter of CO2?

ABC’s Fight for Planet A finds that it is…..

Australia.

Yes, Australia is the world’s highest per capita emitter of the greenhouse gas Carbon Dioxide (CO2).

With only .3% of global population and 1.3% of emissions, we are ahead of the USA and China. The UK produces 1/3 and Indonesia 1/10 of our emissions, respectively.

The above picture, taken from ABC’s Fight for Planet A, portrays Australia’s emissions relative to other countries with black balloons to give some perspective on how many balloons of CO2 per person per hour are produced.

This is essential viewing for any Australian who has an interest in the legacy being handed to future generations.
